Dance has been a part of Courtney’s life for 20+ years.  Although given many opportunities to pursue other sports and activities,
she chose to stick with dance and is very happy with her choice.  Courtney grew up dancing at Kane Dance Academy where she
won numerous top awards and convention scholarships.  She attended Arlington High School where she was on the Dance Team
for four years and was a Captain for three years.  Courtney was fortunate to be the team’s representative at the Miss Dance Team
California competition in 1999 and 2000 and was named to the California Court. This honor allowed her to compete in the Miss
Dance Team USA pageant to represent dance teams from across California and she was honored to be a pageant finalist in 1999
and 2000.  After high school, Courtney began teaching dance at various local studios as well as being a member of the United
Spirit Association’s Jazz Dance staff for three years where she traveled and taught summer camps to dance team’s across the
United States.  Courtney attended the University of California, Riverside where she majored in Political Science and interned in
Washington D.C. at the Brookings Institution in 2002.  Courtney then went on to pursue her teaching credential and Master’s in
Education at California Baptist University and is now in her fifth year of teaching at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside,
CA.  When not in the classroom teaching Government, Economics and AP Microeconomics, Courtney can be found in the gym
advising and coaching the King High School dance team.  Courtney is also the Senior class advisor and is involved in the Link
Crew Freshmen mentoring program.  As if this is not enough, Courtney has spent the last 7 years for the Dupree Dance Expo
where she travels across the United States as a master teacher for the dance convention; and plans on teaching dance for as
long as her body will allow her.
